of sea, leaves, sunshine and red is an ongoing art project and is based on my dissertation project on the French-American excavations in Antioch and its vicinity 1932-1939. Focusing on the "House of the Boat of Psyches", a Roman villa excavated in Daphne and the centerpiece of Europa and the Bull, the work explores the media reflexive approach of color and epoch, pixel and stone.
sea. blue. leaves. green. sunshine. yellow. red. people.
In the multi-channel installation, I attempt to narrate different aspects of the excavations in and around Antioch. By drawing a line between past and present through the narrative of a landscape of color, it also addresses the question of whose story is being told in the excavations and who is the subject of the story in contemporary curatorial strategies. I have been compiling excavation and exhibition documents from various transnational archives with a focus on race, gender, migration, and labor, examining ongoing colonial relations and developing media-reflexive work.
With the silk scarf of Europa, the work refers to the ancient colors to put them in dialogue with the modern color printing system and the mosaic stones and glasses with the idea of the pixel. Furthermore, based on the story of the myth, the viewer again reads a fictional narrative that mirrors the excavation.
